  1. WOW!!!! What a cool house. It is so amazing to think you are going to live in such a grand and historic home. What an honor to have a place that is in the National Register of Historic Places, evan with a bronze plaque on the house. It is so interesting to read about it. I know your family will make it a real home!!! Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations!!!!!
    I love you so much,
    George

  3. I couldn’t wait to get home to get on the website and look at your beautiful house again! It is beautiful and I am absolutely thrilled for you and Floyd! I also like the idea that I can stay informed through this website. Will keep you in my prayers throughout this incredible journey.

  4. I did not realise what you two were doing but I see now. You will need your deep desire to keep going on this adventure and making it work for you. I admire you for your determination and egerness to make a go of it.I pray every thing goes for as you wish. I hpoe to visit your house some day.So enjoy the adventure.

  5. Hi Kids!!! What a WONDERFUL place to call HOME! I’ve ALWAYS enjoyed old homes, but have never taken one like this on. So much work, but you’re having some of the best times of you life — enjoy.

  6. CONGRATULATIONS! So thrilled for all 3 of you! just looked at all the pictures of you and family/friends slaving away and it brought back so many memories of us building our current home – We used a contractor only for the exterior,( i.e. windows, roof, siding – Tara – you absolutely don’t want Floyd on that roof my dear! even one of our union roofers who’s done this a million times fell off while doing the job!) footings, foundation, and shell – everything inside we either did ourselves or traded services for – we moved in with one bathroom finished, but no kitchen sink – did dishes in the bathtub for the first 2 weeks! My Daddy helped me plant the pine trees that now adorn the south of our home – My Brother Jim helped Bob install the kitchen cabinets, counter tops, etc. Bob learned to cut and install our beautiful wood floors and doors and I learned to lay ceramic tile, wallpaper and cut and install our victorian trim and rosettes – and every ounce of energy you put into your new home will make you appreciate it all the more! So enjoy your labors and God Bless you on this journey! Love, Ann

  7. OMG, this house has soooo much potential! I’ve never seen anything like it; congrats!!

  8. I stumbled on your blog while looking up the history on an octagon house in my hometown in Kentucky. Ours is now a museum and just celebrated their 150th birthday. I think I read somewhere there is only 4 or 5 octagon houses left in the US. They are so unique and beautiful, and when I was a child I always said that I would love to live in a house like that! Congratulations on your awesome find!

  9. Warning about the Chimney’s they create an acid as it is the “vent” for the house. They need to be lined with stove pipe! We had a copper clad wood/coal cooking stove that vented in the south chimney. The attic floor has gotten worse and worse I see. We sealed them once and put covers on the stacks…
We had retuck-pointed and reworked the gutters but they spalled badly. It was good when I left. The house moves as there is no real foundation. Plus it is over /near some mining shafts and the ground moves out to the river as well. It never bothered me until I saw that back wall wouldn’t be stabile. Anyway, I send you my love and hope for your new home.!

  10. I am SO glad someone is saving the house. One of my dearest friends lived there while we were growing up. It’s an AMAZING house….congrats!
